The Beautiful Paintings invited collectors to generate their own unique Damien Hirst “Spin Painting” through a machine-learning system, a major evolution in Hirst’s decades-long interest in removing the artist’s hand from the act of making. Building on the original Spin Paintings (1992), the project shifted authorship further by allowing the audience to choose colours, shapes, and styles through a generative dashboard that echoed the randomness of Hirst’s mechanical Spin machines.
